Pregnancy is a great opportunity to make a self examination about your lifestyle and your habits, and it’s also a great time to start leading a healthier life. So, here are few tips that can help you have a green and healthy pregnancy:
- Cook your own meals- It’s much healthier for you to cook and eat your own fresh food then to eat packaged processed food or junk food from a restaurant. It’s also healthier for the environment, because it takes a lot of energy to produce those processed food and their packages.
- Buy second hand maternity cloths- maternity clothes can be really expensive and you will only need them for few months. There are a lot of second hand shops that selling great maternity clothes in fair prices, so what’s the point of spending a lot of money if you can pay much less and also help the environment.
- Check your beauty products- Many cosmetic and beauty products can be harmful for you and for your baby as they contain chemicals ingredients that linked to birth defects, and cancer. You should start reading the labels of the products you using, and if you are not familiar with some ingredients, you can use the great site “skin deep” to check if they are safe.
- Use an eco friendly cleaning products or makes them yourself- Synthetic cleaning products contain toxic chemicals which are dangerous for everyone, especially for pregnant women. Now, it’s a great time to start using eco friendly cleaning product or if you prefer the cheaper way- make your own cleaning products by yourself.
- Exercise regularly- It’s really important to exercise, especially during pregnancy; you’ll feel much lighter, with strength to carry your extra weight, and it can help you handle the physical stress of the labor. Even if you didn’t exercise before the pregnancy, you can do gentle exercise like walking, swimming, or pregnancy yoga. This is your chance to leave your car at home and just walk any time you can, it’s better for you and for the environment.
- Don’t use pesticides- According to the “American Pregnancy Association” Significant exposure to pesticides is a concern for adults, children and particularly expectant mothers, because pesticides and insecticides contain chemicals that are used to attack the nervous system of the insects and cause them to die. During the first trimester of pregnancy, the nervous system is rapidly developing in the baby, so pregnant women should stay away from pesticides. Few days ago I read a great idea at the blog “5 Minutes for going green”, Erica had offer to use Orange oil to get rid of aunts in a natural way.
- Ask your family and friends to bring your new baby eco friendly gifts or even to throw you a green baby shower.
- And the most important thing-enjoy your pregnancy. take the 9 month to start connecting with your baby.
Have an enjoyable green & healthy pregnancy!
